Unregistered	hello there This may be just a miserable and cynical frame of mind, in which case many apologies for inflicting it on other people, but not a lot seems to be going right at the moment. After getting to the stage where i can play my pieces with reasonable fluency, i find it extremely boring to sit for hours going over and over the same thing. i know that i really enjoy playing a piece with someone else on the piano, or in a duet, or quartet or something like that, but that is unpractical - impossible to do. does anybody have any similar thoughts/suggestions?

Unregistered	Get a duet book, record one part on a tape player or mp3 player or something, play it back, and play the top part (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) It is good fun (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Can you get any books with CDs for piano which you can play along to? Do you have any friends who play orchestral instruments who you could have a jamming session with? Have you tried improvising at all? See if there any groups around which are looking for a pianist, or even set up your own (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Hope this helps (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Unregistered	You can do duet piano grades - I did grade 1 a very long time ago with my sister and its great fun!

Yes, as Nicki and Britten_bonanza said, you could practice duet pieces with your teacher/by yourself, and perhaps work your way up duet grades. You say that you get bored of practicing the same pieces - is that because you only do exam pieces? You could get some new piano books and just try and extend your repertoire, and have a go and things you otherwise may not have done.

Unregistered	hello again i didn't actually mean someone playing the piano as in a duet, but accompanying me on the violin. i do have a few friends who play violin and other orchestral instruments, but none who are really serious enough about music to play duets just for the fun of it. i have been trying to find sheet music that i can download, because music books here are extremely expensive, but all of it is either unrecognisable as the piece or insanely difficult. i get bored pretty easily which is nobody's fault but my own.... i did grade 8 last year and now my teacher is going to enter me for eistedfodds, but they seem a long way off - it feels rather like the piece i'm going to be playing will be horribly stale by then.

Unregistered	Ah right. Have you ever thought of joining a local orchestra? I am sure there are several of these and other chamber groups near you and it would be fun. It sounds like you're continuously doing the same pieces for a long time. Get some fun books, and just play things from those for fun (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Unregistered	Is there no local music service whatsoever? If they are at a school, are there any music groups there? Is the Cape of Storms in South Africa?

Unregistered	yes. lately it has been quite scorching though. i already play in two orchestras (school and music school), but the music is very very very easy and boring, and an ensemble at school, and one quartet out of school (the only worthwhile one really). due to the standard of playing at our school being very varied all the pieces have to accomodate everyone, so most are excruciatingly boring. puff cat - how do you know this? where is this mystery place?.... i'll try to get some good books... for a birthday present if possible.

Unregistered	i sometimes get bored of playing some of by baroque vivaldi stuff (basically the majority of my music), though i tend to get over it after a while and my enthusiasm comes back). But if i am at a low point and simply cannot stand to play any old stuff i have a book with lots of hungarian folk tunes in it. most of them are impossible, but i like the challenge of it, and once you get the idea of them they are very soothing to listen to too.
