Hi, I am learning C major scale in thirds. The given fingering is a bit difficult but there is an alternative finger but only part of it is shown in the scale book:

Right hand: 13 , 24, 35, 13, 24, 13,24, 13
Left hand: 53, 42, 31, 42, 31, 42, 31

Can someone tell me the full fingering pattern going both up and down 2 octaves?

many thanks

If you think of that pattern as placing fingers 3 and 5 on only one pair of notes in each hand (E and G in RH and C and E in LH) it might simplify it.
All other notes go 13 24.

Hi Pianopuzzle,

Do be aware that scales can also be fingered (and this will be useful when doing scales in thirds with a lot of black keys) that the fingering of 13, 24, 35, 12, 13, 24 35, can be used.

If I recall, both sets of fingering are given in the AB's scale manual - the one with an ærial view of a Steinway on the front, or if you have the older edition (like me) a dark olive green book, appropriately labelled. It's a good investment, and contains the details of the esoteric scales found up to grade 8 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif).
