Hi, I am learning C major scale in thirds. The given fingering is a bit difficult but there is an alternative finger but only part of it is shown in the scale book:
Right hand: 13 , 24, 35, 13, 24, 13,24, 13 Left hand: 53, 42, 31, 42, 31, 42, 31 Can someone tell me the full fingering pattern going both up and down 2 octaves? many thanks |

If you think of that pattern as placing fingers 3 and 5 on only one pair of notes in each hand (E and G in RH and C and E in LH) it might simplify it.
All other notes go 13 24. |

Hi Pianopuzzle,
Do be aware that scales can also be fingered (and this will be useful when doing scales in thirds with a lot of black keys) that the fingering of 13, 24, 35, 12, 13, 24 35, can be used. |

If I recall, both sets of fingering are given in the AB's scale manual - the one with an ærial view of a Steinway on the front, or if you have the older edition (like me) a dark olive green book, appropriately labelled. It's a good investment, and contains the details of the esoteric scales found up to grade 8 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif).
