The music of Vaughan Williams - English Folk Song Suite

Got to learn this for the TYO upcoming tour! I am already in love with this suite.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) That was the first thing I ever played in an orchestra (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif)

I'm listening to a combination of rain and squeaky floorboards, I think someone may be going downstairs to make a cup of tea (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Same here. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I did it on cello though, not flute. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I'd only just started learning the flute, and I really, really wanted to be playing the flute part not the cello one - but of course the orchestra only had two flutes and I knew that there was no point in asking because there was only two of us on cello.

I've still never actually got to play the flute part. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Ironically, I really wanted to play the cello in orchestra!!
At the time I was the most in-experienced and youngest flute, so I got 3rd/picc chair...I dreaded the concert because I felt so exposed, especially the quickish bits in the 1st mvt, and the flute/picc solo in the middle of the 3rd movement! I'd never ever played with an orchestra and was so scared I'd ruin it for everyone with a really loud, out of tune squeak! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Thankfully it was ok, and by the time we played it for MFY the other two flautists had gone off to uni so I got first and somebody else played picc (poor thing!!) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) good memories (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

That's a bizarre coincidence. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) Shame we weren't in the same orchestra. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

My brother playing Rule Brittania on the piano downstairs- he keeps jumping octaves "for effect" which sounds a bit strange! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piano.gif)

Concerto Grosso by vaughn Williams.

Brings back memories of performing it with the London Mozart Players.
