You and CE are showing your age by thinking that Deirdre and Judith are 'old ladies'' names...they belong to MY contemporaries (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Talking of older names my daughter is planning on naming my grandchild to be Agnes Alice (they said it was a girl as far as they could tell from the scan).

Sppoky story about "Agnes" (yes, it's very old!!)

Way back in 1970, some BBC friends were involved in Am. Dram. I used to go along to rehearsals and make tea etc. One day, the actress playing "Agnes" failed to turn up, so they askd if I would read through the part. After that the name stuck, and amongst certain friends (ex Beeb) still does.

One of these dear friends who always called me Agnes (with great mirth) died in 2005. It was two weeks after his funeral in Croydon that we held a dinner party here in Poulton. Over coffee, I mentioned I had been to the funeral of a friend who I knew from the BBC back in the '70's.......nothing more said. None of our dinner guests were remotely connected with the aforementioned crowd from the BBC. One of them is a Spiritualist, and after a few minutes, he lent across to me and gently asked "Why did he call you ANGUS?"

Agnes - Angus ----spookily close, eh?

Just a little ghost story to close the evening

Talking of older names my daughter is planning on naming my grandchild to be Agnes Alice (they said it was a girl as far as they could tell from the scan).

My brother and sister in law joked, when they were expecting their first child, that they would name her after her grandmothers if she was a girl...Gladys Nora (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

She was (is) a girl, but they named her Joanne, (relief all round), and she is now expecting their first grandchild.

PS only hint on names so far from Jo is that they want to call him Archie if he's a boy, but are a bit concerned about people thinking they named him after our dog (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Yuk. I'm afraid I thought it was horrible.

QUOTE(noodle @ Jul 5 2006, 09:29 AM) *

That girl can YELL. There was nothing musical or tuneful in that performance and the choice of song was wrong for an 11 year old. Like Amber, I would be concerned for her voice in the long term - if she keeps going like that, she won't have a voice by the time she's 16.

QUOTE(sarah-flute @ Jul 6 2006, 11:34 PM) *

It was... scary. Yes, she has a big voice. But I can't say I enjoyed it much. And I agree with the others, one wonders what will happen to her voice if she's encouraged to keep singing that way.

QUOTE(Cyrilla @ Jul 7 2006, 05:02 PM) *

I SO agree with the old-lady rants about this girl, her voice and the too-quick growing up of today's children...

I could quote a number of other similar posts on this thread, but I do agree with the sentiments in the posts I've quoted above.

I reckon there's enough of us now to do one of those nude calendars, like the W.I. ladies did.
Bagsy I get to pose tastefully behind a double bass!
