Viohazard is supposed to be polishing a Bach sonata, and hewing wood and drawing water on his Bruch, but he can't keep his fingers off Vivaldi "Spring". Up until now Spring wasn't his favourite, but something clicked...

He's been playing it off a CD, but recently is asking for the score, and I'm sort of tempted to let him have it while we're on summer holiday for 10 days.

Is the Music Minus One edition with backing track CD a pleasant one for somebody just "fiddling" with it on their own, or is there a standard edition which would be more useful in the long run?

Friend of mine played part of Spring to a CD the other day at a church event - I'll try and find out which version it was, as it was a pretty good accompaniment (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I would be interested to find out about this too please. I would love to be able to play along with a CD for Vivaldi's Four Seasons.

It just seems very well laid out. Easy to perform from, and the fingerings are generally very good.

I'd vouch for the Barenreiter edition. It's the urtext edition, which I prefer over some of the Peters editions where editors have tweaked it around for their own preferences on bowing and/or fingerings. Urtext reproduces what the composer wrote without anything having been touched.

I got an email from my friend and she said the Peters Edition is what she had, I haven't managed to get hold of her to work out which CD she was using though!

I like the Spring, because it is smooth and fast.
I got some music! The violin shop owner gave me a copy yesterday, when I went to get my bow re-haired. I told him that I want to play Spring, and he found some music that he used to play. It's from Italy.
It's big and clear to read, but it's very old and the page change comes at a bad place.

P.S. I was listening to CDs played by Vanessa Mae and by Carmignola.

Just to say - violin-ann mentioned in a different thread that the Peters edition has a playalong CD - I guess that must be the one Ruth has. She seems to like it!

I don't know, I may not be in a position to say, having just passed Grade 5, but as far as I can see, I like the lay-out, the score is easy to read, the sheets of music are separated for each instrument and there's of course the beautiful play-along CD! happygirl seemed to like it as well. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Do you think you would change the fingerings and whatever they edited if you didn't agree with them, Amanda? I somehow think that as a teacher you would put in whatever works best for you or your student so it might not matter so much about the editor's marks?
