Hey,

I just wondered if anyone has written any new compositions recently? Obviously those that've been written for the LCM exams you wouldn't want to share till they've been marked, but I would love to hear what people have been up to.

If I manage to find any of my recent ones/write any more, I shall post them.....

I'm currently doing some arrangements for clarinet/flute. I haven't got any original compositions on the go at the moment, anything new will be likely to be on the CWB 'flexible ensemble' model (ie for lots of different instruments and standards) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I have a composition for piano and clarinet, I want to use it for my GCSE but havn't managed to convince a pianist to play it through with me yet...... No idea what it sounds like, in other words!

I compose on Notepad and then play back the piano part through my pc speakers to play along on the flute. Have you tried that? I think you need speakers to do it loud enough.

I'm having a bit of an identity crisis and I'm trying to find my own style. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

I'm not really composing at the moment, I am more researching and experimenting. Right now I'm trying out sonata form and see what potential it could have.

Seriously... I'm working on some arrangements for sequencing projects in AS-Level Music Tech... Also writing a few songs for my new album... Need to get them finished so I can get in the studio and get the whole thing off the ground, really!


Will be doing compositions in the style of Bach for AS-Level Music soon too, so look out for me asking for advice on here when that time comes!!

I keep two note books with me at most times; one for writing music and the other for pencil sketches. I try to write something in each one every day just to keep my hand in. Today I have scribbled a melody for a Christmas carol, and them sketched in a second part but it is still very much in the first idea stage and may never go beyond that. In the other book I have drawn a rough sketch of a church in my village. I had the idea of drawing about half a dozen Anglesey scenes and printing them out on art paper as Christmas pressies for friends. I have several compositions on the go too, and shall finish one this evening if I stop reading forum posts! I want to watch something on Artsworld later too so need to get busy!

A few months back the orchestra in which I play (Aldworth Philharmonic) decided to put on an education day for local primary schoolchildren and I was asked to write two three-minute pieces, one to illustrate the woodwind and horns, the other the brass. The event was last Saturday. Rehearsals for both were rather fraught, and the wind group was complete for the first time only on Saturday morning, half an hour before the children arrived. However, both pieces gelled nicely on that run-through, and the most of the performances (we played each piece four times) were even better.

Since then I have heard that two of my players got hooked on tunes from the piece they played: the ultimate compliment for a composer of light music (which is what these pieces were)!
