OK, I'm looking for some Organ repertoire to be getting on with. I've got the Bach 8 short preludes and fugues, but need something of a different style. Some days my brain doesn't like Bach. Something a bit different would be good.
What do you recommend? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

What sort of level are you at?
Mathias is quite good if you want something modern. Franck L'Organiste (no pedals) has reasonable stuff in it. Vierne 24 (I think that's how many) pieces en style libre- Berceuse is LOVELY. Any favoured composers? MTTx |

Nothing too difficult really. I'd like stuff with pedals in, I need to get used to them.

Also Marcel Dupre 79 Chorales- not too hard and they have pedals (all the fingering is really annoying though.)

There are some easy movements in the Mendelssohn Sonatas. I borrowed some from the University Library yesterday (looking for movements to arrange for orchestra) and was able to play most of the Fugue from No 2 on the piano, including pedal stave.

Some of the Flor Peeters chorale preludes are interesting without being too difficult.
If the Mendelssohn sonatas look a bit daunting, maybe the Preludes and Fugues ? - unless p and f sounds too much like JSB! Peter Hurford - Two Dialogues Karg-Elert - Chorale ?Improvisations ? I think is the title - if you fancy something a bit romantic-ish. |

Don't be too fooled- it was once an ARCO piece! The Andante tranquillo (not sure about the name) from no.4 is not too bad. |

I got some Vierne - 24 pieces en style libre, volume 1. Some of the pieces are managable, but they just sound like nothing I've ever played before (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

This is a question a number of people often ask me, and I always point to the Ab exam lists themselves. A few of the 8 short P and F appear on the lists, find the one you can play and have a look at the other music on the lists. The C lists in particular throws up some unexpected surprises. I'd recommend the Graded Anthology books that are on the lists (I think pub Cramer ed Anne Marsden Thomas) as they contain quite a wdie variety of material.

I haven't really had a look, no. I'm a bit snowed under with other stuff to learn at the moment.

Let us know how you get on with them. I may try them myself at some stage.
