Hi from Hazel,
Has anyone tried online flute lessons? What was your experience? Does anyone recommend them? Any good ones? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

I'm not an expert here but I wouldn't think any online music lessons were very good.

You need guidance and feed back and a "real" person.

When I screw up in lessons, my teacher stops me, puts my hands where they're supposed to be or demonstrates for me how I'm supposed to sound.

I don't see how online lessons would work: do you get a real person over webcam or just like watching dvd's?

There is nothing like a REAL LIVE person pointing you in the right direction.

I've never had online lessons but I'm VERY dubious about them to be honest, for reasons such as these folk have said ^

I've sat in on video-conferencing masterclasses, but they are for conservatoire students whose technique is fully developed. For a student with skills bordering on a professional level of playing they are an excellent way of receiving a lesson from an internationally respected musician, but without the cost of travel.

For the general learner on an instrument, I really wouldn't recommend online lessons.
