I know it sounds stupid but I have 2 extra bars at the end of my composition which don't need to be there - how can I just delete them. I tried pressing delete and going to edit then delete and it won't work! So at the moment I'm stuck with two extra empty bars after the double bar line!

I hope somebody can help me!

Highlight the bar [get double lines aroudn the bars in question] and press control and delete at the same time - hopefully this will work.

Oh and to highlight it, press shift + ctrl and click. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Then I think you can just delete, actually.

Yes, I always forget how to delete. You have hold CTRL down and highlight it as others have said. Annoying.

I have always thought that Sibelius could be much more user friendly in terms of organisation of its many functions in the drop down menus! Supposedly simple functions like deleting or adding bars can be rather tedious... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/angry.gif)

Hold down CTRL and double click in the bar you want to get rid of - this'll put a double blue line around the bar. Then press Del.

Any one know how to change the number of bars in a system? It's all too spread out and I want to increase the number of bars in a line, to reduce the number of pages I'm using.

It's taken me ages to get to grips with Sibelius. I don't find it at all intuitive and end up shouting at it sometimes (IMG:style_emoticons/default/argh.gif)

Go to Layout, then Document Setup and change the Staff Size from 6 to around 4.5 ish. I use this to reduce the number of pages for my orchestration assignments and also it makes the music less cramped when writing for a large orchestra.

Thanks - now reduced from 4 pages to 3. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hurrah.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/thanks.gif) for these tips above but I agree about Sibelius. I bought myself a version as a Christmas present to myself and I'm still struggling to do basic things. I don't learn well from manuals and although I've ploughed through the on-line tutorials, what I really need to do is go on a short course where I can try doing these as instructed with someone to help me out if I get stuck.

I have to say, very naughty, I keep going back to my old music system because, though it's far less efficient and clever, I understand it and can use it quickly. It's just taken me a whole evening to set a four-part piece lasting 12 bars in Sibelius. Oh well, guess I'll get the hang of it one day! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/fingersCrossed.gif)

Thanks to those posting tips - very, very useful. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

My reason for using Sibelius at the moment is to play some music into it, using the school electronic piano that I've borrowed for the holidays. I last used it last summer and, of course, have forgotten how I connected the keyboard to my computer. I have now managed to get it working with the USB connection, but Sibelius keeps crashing when I move from playing the piano keyboard to using the computer keyboard to corret a wrong note I've played. I've manage to finish what I wanted to do but it took a long time.!

okay just remebered I haven't quite finished it yet...How do you put two parts in the right hand piano part for example say you have an A minim, with the stem sticking up and underneath you have quaver rest, quaver, quaver rest, quaver, with stem sticking down... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/anyone.gif)

ps i hope it makes sense!

You need to add notes to the second voice on the stave - Alt+2 if I recall. Then use Alt+1 to switch back to adding notes to the first voice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif).
