Hi folks,
My daughter recently started working towards her grade 3 violin exam and is tackling 3rd position. She's finding it really difficult and no amount of encouragement seems to help. ;o( Can anyone suggest any ways I can help her to regain her enjoyment of playing and/or any 3rd position tips? Thanks Maz *edit* sorry, I think this is probably on the wrong forum but I can't work out how to move it to the strings one! |

I think everyone has covered what I'd say, but I just wanted to chip in that with my first (bad) violin teacher the main aim was to get me through the grades as quickly as possible, and he only started me on 3rd position when I got to Grade 5. This was a massive mistake (and I never took my Grade 5 until I'd changed teachers twice!) and I had to spend about a year working on technique once I'd got a new teacher and going back to simple pieces and just practising! It seems annoying but it is much better to get your 3rd position sorted now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) and don't worry if it seems to take a while to sink in, practise really does make perfect - after a while (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
