Has anyone or anyones pupils ever got full marks on scales for AB exams? I know what is expected for scales but was wondering if anyone has ever got full marks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I was thinking more along the lines of grade 8 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) but hey ho (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
What do you suppose I should spend more time on...getting ALL the scales fluent and fast or spend that little bit extra time on the pieces to make sure they are as good as I get them with as much detail as possible? |

Scales don't need to be stupidly fast, I didn't play them fast at all for grade 8 and didn't lose any marks for it.

I found that by grade 8 I was naturally playing scales at least at the minimum suggested speed for the grade anyway.

Wow, I just looked at the speed requirments and I can play them by far fast enough so that's a good thing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Managed a 20 at grade 7. Lost the mark for getting stuck at the top of a G# minor arpeggio and having a complete blank about getting down again. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Besides my recorder pupil who has already posted, I have had the same pupil getting 19 for both Grade 7 and Grade 8 flute scales.

19/21 for both Grade VI and Grade VIII clarinet.
Can't remember the Grade VI, but I managed to mess up Eb melodic minor twice in Grade VIII - GRRR! The examiner lulled me into a false sense of security by asking for easy scales before springing that one on me. Full marks for scales still wouldn't have pushed me into the distinction band though. |
