Carmina Burana, wow! Options

has anybody else seen the score for carmina burana??? OH. MY. GOD.

it totally defies all rules of harmony, anyone would fink an amatuer wrote it, or a four year old, its just a mass of scribble, but it is totally amazing to listen to!!

I might add that it hardly looks like the work of an "amateur". Once you appreciate the problems of achieving good orchestral/choral balance with a lot of brass in the orch. you come to understand how clever the work is. . .No composer writes neatly and no one who's anyone follows the rules of harmony.

By the way, what's this "amateur" thing? The difference between an amateur and professional is that an amateur loves what she/he does (that's what the word means) where a professional belongs to a learned institute whose conduct and practice is regulated by a governing body.

what i meant by amatuer, is someone who is not that good ( sorry........ i know that this is not the correct meaning of the word) but if youd have read the words i said

to look at the score you would think that it would sound really bad, but it is....... as i said absolutely amazing to listen to....... a bit of a suprise after seeing the score that it sounds good!

i was mearly talking about the appearance of the score and the expectations you would have from listening to the score, and i agree that the work is amazing, hence 'Carmina Burana......... WOW!'

Yes, it really is a wonderful piece. I discovered it when I was a student (quite a few years ago now) and used to play it very loudly when writing essays....

You don't meet many people who know much more of it than the first two pieces, though.

I've sung O Fortuna several times at Proms in the Park events - great fun with lasers & fireworks all around, although you don't get the best view from the stage!

Never sung the whole piece, although I'd love to.

re: amateur. Possibly you mean dilettante. "Bluff Your Way in Music" defines the difference between amateurs and professionals as amateurs have to practice!
