im taking a gap year before starting my music degree and i want to make sure i keep playing my clarinet (2nd study) regularly. over the last few months with my teacher i was working on the mozart clarinet concerto, and he suggested on my report that i also look at alfred uhl studies.
any suggestions for pieces of a similar level? im thinking of getting some that are on the grade 7/8 syllabus |

I'm working my way through the Uhl studies at the moment - some aren't too bad, but some are frightful (and the annoying thing is that on the page they don't look particularly difficult!). The Rose 32 Studies are nice, if you haven't done them yet.
Pieces - from the Grade 7 list I'd recommend the Pierne Canzonetta, Tartini Concertino, Graham Lyons Sonata and the James Rae Studies. From the Grade 8 - Brahms Sonata in Eb, Gomez Lorito and the Alan Ridout Concertino. There are other nice pieces on the lists, of course, but I liked the above the best! Other good pieces which you might enjoy are the Weber Concertino, Stamitz Concerto in Eb, Paul Harris Sonata da Camera and Weber Grand Duo Concertant. :) |

I like the Graham Lyons sonata!! I'm playing that and whatever number the study is in the James Rae book for my Grade 7. I'm also playing the Braham sonata off the G7 syllabus, I can't remember what it is ;) , but it's still good to play |
