I can knit! I was taught by my music teacher last winter when we got stuck in the school during a snow storm (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif).

I love knitting! best kinds of designs are those like ganseys that don't need sewing up - knitting was meant to be in the round - not in the flat !

I can knit... sort of... my sister taught me, but I can't cast on or off... I can just keep knitting until I have to give it to someone else...

I am a knitting disaster. Everything I have ever tried to knit has had long ladder like holes in it. My earliest memories of knitting are two enormous wooden needles and some string with which I was supposed to knit a dish cloth.

The last thing I knitted was a cardigan in thick wool, on quite large needles. It had fewer holes than most of my efforts but came out of the washing machine as pure felt.

I was once writing irregular English verbs on the blackboard for a class to copy - the sort ot list non English speakers have to learn. It went something like this:

to sing sang sung
to eat ate eaten
to knit knat knat

I don't know what I was thinking of!!

Does anyone still do that lovely fairisle (have I spelt it correctly) knitting which I admire but could never aspire to?

I can knit. I have made lots of Aran and FairIsle sweaters! I made loads of Mr Blobby's when he was the rage a few years back. (I made one for a niece, then all her mates wanted one!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) )

**I remember the "Wendy is a great knit" adds, and the telly adds for pure new wool played Faures' Pavane as backing music (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) **

Ooh, I remember that too, although if you'd asked me before I read this, I'd have said it was Pachelbel's canon.....

I'm not really a little old lady or a young person, but I'll join!!

I learnt to knit when I was about 8, and to crochet. I used to knit and crochet clothes for my dolls, and my friends' dolls, all the time when I was younger. I got my knitter's badge (or whatever it was called, it had a ball of wool with a pair of needles stuck through it) in the Brownies and the Guides (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Nowadays I do stuff for my daughter's toys. I have done a few bigger things like baby clothes and scarves but I prefer doing smaller stuff that can be finished in an evening or two. I really admire people who can stick at something huge for weeks and weeks.

It is getting harder and harder to find decent wool shops nowadays though (especially if you only want small quantities) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) When I was young, having hand-knitted school cardigans was sort-of a sign of poverty, as wool was so cheap and readily available. Nowadays it is cheaper to just buy the cardigan (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

I've been awarded a black belt in Macrame, does that count?
