'Can I take this horse on your train?'

'Nay'.

It's just dawned on me (slight groan - keep reading...) that I know exactly where Dawnmc71 is performing her singing diploma. In 1978 I was a young TA Lance Corporal, on a fortnight's camp in Gibraltar. One of my duties was to be part of the guard for the Convent, where the Governor resided.

If I remember rightly, the guardroom was over the road, next door to The Angry Friar.

Any other old soldiers on the forum?

The pony/horse has now been sighted in a pub and the owner of the animal was banned from the pub for life.

Reading all the information that has arrived from Daughter's new school (goes into Y7 in September.) Am oddly depressed at the thought that she is going to a school that has to have a policy on appropriate tongue piercings. Is this because I am a snob, or just old fashioned. [Suspect both (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) ]

They also want to fingerprint her. Apparently it's something to do with paying for school dinners but it sounds very strange. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

What are 'dating mules'? Some kind of footwear? My ex used to have 'pulling pants' - I suspect these may be something similar so, no, I haven't tried them ... yet. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
Definitely not keen on the fingerprinting thing - and don't think we'll go for the tongue piercing either. I suspect it wouldn't help progress on the flute.
Any tongue-pierced flute-tonguers out there know better?

OMG.

Other half is on an extended 1970s pop jag, playing all his old LPs. Highlights so far - The Who, Creedence Clearwater. Unfortunately I have just had to ask him to turn off the Rubettes - it was all getting a bit too much. JRC (see The Oatmeal) now we are on to Katrina and the Waves. This has to STOP.

Deep Purple, ah that’s better.

After half term, my friend wants to teach me the French horn in return for me teaching her the bassoon, although neither of us will have instruments around to practise on between lessons... I think our Saturdays will be more gossip-and-play-piano mornings than proper music lessons!

I need to do a speech next week, but I seem to be incapable of pronouncing the word "appropriately".

Then I suppose you will have to pronounce it "inappropriately."
