Just back from a mini-Forums outing. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) It was good to see notmusimum and Halka at the NYRO (National Youth Recorder Orchestra) concert this afternoon, and good to hear some great playing from Emsoboe, Musical Maniac and my recorder pupil in the orchestra. I like Haribo too but since the doc didn't like my blood sugar levels I don't think I'll be buying any.

I was watching the Rugby between the All Blacks and some other country..(dont ask me who as it was early and I was staggering round the kitchen looking for the Aga)..

So the thing occured to me when the All Blacks had done the Haka looking all butch and magnificent..the theatrical came out in me and I thought how funny it would have been if the other team had replied and done the "French Mistake" from Mel Brooks Blazing Saddles.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (if you don't know it watch the movie.) I could picture the All Blacks bemused faces and the uproar from the crowd..( I think it's probably time for me pills )

funny, odd and most defintely random..

i didn't know where else to post and i don't think my question needs a thread of it's own.

This is for the clarinettists out there.

Does anyone know what sort of grade the clarinet concerto by Jim Parker is?
i can't find out anywhere.

Not very easy : a comfortable grade 8, Rach. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

oh ok. i was just wondering. thanks barry. i might think about trying to learn it (trying being the operative word). i'm thinking i need a grade 8 piece if i wanted to get into uni.

i'm also pondering what to do for the single reed festival masterclass even though it's like 8 months away. Anthony said i should do the masterclass next year.

You don't necessarily need a grade 8 piece depending on what course you want to do, Rach. I'd be strongly inclined to go for things you can play well, at the peak end of your ability.

All being well, I'll be at Colchester again, and I'll apply for the masterclass. Am very tempted to try some Malcolm Arnold there...

I've been told by friends doing the ba music course at colchester institute that the piece has to be kind of grade 8 standard even if you're not grade 8.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/yay.gif) i can't wait now. it means i'll get to see you again. i had a nice conversation with you at the one back in may. I just hope my Grade 7 goes well next term. I reckon i'll do one of the finzi bagatelles. I've basically sight read them all but i'm mainly working on the prelude.

OK. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I'm sure you have Charles et al. who will put you on the right track. Maybe think about some Brahms, or Weber? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Hope the grade 7 goes well. By May, you may well be up to looking at the Fughetta. Will be good to see you again, Rach. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Emmm so maybe too much alcohol tonight... but feeling very nostalgic looking at photos from 10 years ago, and missing owning my little horse and riding so much... Can't wait to hopefully go visit him and his new owner next weekend. Also wishing I was the size I was back then!!! Wishing I could change things... And wishing my Gran wasn't so ill and back in hospital with acute renal failure... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I could do with a break :-( Thinking of Cyrilla - wish I could help more... I know how you are feeling... i've been there before too... And wanting a cuddle... could do with knowing i'm worth more than I think I am... feeling like a pretty rubbish musician/teacher right now too...
