Well, that's different Dawn! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

My supervisor at university is a bad, bad woman, enticing me to stay here for 3 more years researching things. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

After seeing a cartoon card posted on another thread I have just spent quite a few minutes trawling through oboe/oboist related stuff on www.cafepress.com (quite a lot of the same stuff, I think). I have a few Xmas presents sorted already! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Why is all the news coverage on the clock's change trial trying to make out that dark mornings will only be a problem for the far north of Scotland?

I am less than half way up GB (west yorkshire) and just realised that at times we will not have sunrise till gone 9:40 and I will have to start getting up in the dark from the middle of August till the end of March, I will also be travelling to work in the dark for nearly 6 months of the year! Grrrrrr

Dark mornings are a problem here in the south as well when you start teaching at 08.10 as I do three days a week. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

QUOTE(Czerny @ Oct 25 2011, 05:00 PM) *

I do remember being surprised once in UC by an astonishingly easy music question: something like, "How many sharps are there in A major?"

When I played this in my grade 3 clarinet exam many moons ago, there were two sharps in A major (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yay.gif)

I have a flyer on my desk from a local URC church, advertising a series of Sunday afternoon concerts, and bearing a nifty little logo - a treble stave with two sharps and a few vague notes.

I've had great fun over the past couple of weeks getting my lower grade theory students to
1) identify the mistake, and 2) work out a scale of D major with F# and B#.

*wicked cackle*

Some of us remember going to primary school in the late 60s when there was a 3 year experiment with this. Funny thing, it got canned because of the increase in accidents involving children going to school in th dark. I lived in Liverpool at the time and sunrise at start of January would be about 9.15

So I've found out exactly how much math I can do in an hour... unfortunately the answer is very little and the context was an exam (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) Thank goodness the professor is one of maybe two in the department who ever gives in-class, closed-book exams...

Played organ for a wedding today and noticed as they were processing up to sign the register that the bridesmaids were wearing very fetching black ballgowns with diamond-type jewel clasps at the hips. Didn't see what colour the flowers were.

Afterwards, walking past as the photos were being taken, I saw that all the guests were in black and white, too.

I don't THINK it was meant to be a Hallowe'en themed 'do' but as they assembled on the steps in front of the church in the glorious sunshine and stiff breeze, it looked a bit like an Addams Family gathering. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

One of my friends had a black and white themed wedding a few years ago!
