Right, I'm off to Australia in the morning (4am ARGHH!), so I wont be around for the next 3 weeks! I return on the 31st, if for some reason you want to contact me (can't imagine why you would, but hey!). I will hopefully be in a good mood, because GCSE Results come out 3 days before I get home!
See you all soon! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

I really need to decide what to wear to the funeral tomorrow. But that would require looking through the wardrobe and seeing which (smart) clothes still fit. Since I last did "smart" I have probably put on 2 stone (due to things outside my control) so I doubt much will fit. Bah. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Thinking of you at the funeral p-c-f (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thereThere.gif) Thanks. Has been a hard day. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif) |

Just seen Skylark's signature for today. Coincidentally I was at a friend's house yesterday and they have two beautiful Victorian lamps, each with two lightbulbs, and each lightbulb operated by a pull chain, so you can have low light (one bulb) or bright light with both bulbs - Victorian dimming with pull chains - really clever and very beautiful (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Hooray for the forum being back!
Today is odd. Tomorrow I am off work because of it being my mother-in-law's funeral. Today I have lots of urgent things to do, with a stupid 4-6pm meeting (meetings beyond 5pm - really not a reasonable thing to do!), and the meeting is with a group of people who...well, are used to getting things their own way and have much to say about things being done any other way, and they also occasionally ask for the technically-not-possible, then suggest to other people on the team that a different developer is approached when I tell them it's impossible (and one thing they insisted was possible, I asked them to send me a screen-shot of how they had it on the front end so I could try to work out how it was done in the background, and they came back and said they'd looked in to it and indeed their set up turned out not to have that functionality they were insisting on after all, and perhaps could't we get a programmer from the software manufacturer to provide me with advice. Hang on. Who just got it wrong about what the product can/can't do, and I'm the one who needs assistance?!) And I just don't give a stuff about any of it. By 4pm what little enthusiasm I have for the day will be well worn out, having to deal with people who just seem to want to make things difficult fo the sake of it will not be something I'm up for. Hopefully my colleagues will step in when/if I get too close to saying anything tooooo inappropriate to these people (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

You'll be able to tell them now when it was patented (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) The lamps sound lovely (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

She always blames the Americans who throw their weight about wanting to have 'conference' calls and meetings just when she wants to go home . (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) . She usually goes in early and likes to leave at 4.30. |

I usually get a call from the states wanting something when I'm on late shift... typically about 2 minutes before I'm due to go home (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) |

Most of the people I work with in the US are also early people - as an example, I had a meeting with one of them at 11am UK time yesterday, whcih was 6am her time (on a Monday morning! And she was in her office!) But it's just these extra special get their own way external people who we have to pander to, who want it at a time which is most inconvenient for us in the UK. |
