I'm already sick of all the election propaganda (and have been for weeks) and the election hasn't actually been called yet - although it probably will be later today. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) I know who I'm voting for, and it's not going to get changed by all the posturing and manipulating... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) Official announcement is 11am, Gordon Brown is off to see the Queen now, to ask for her permission to dissolve the current Parliament. I wonder what happens if the Queen says 'no, you can't'? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) It would be good if she could. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |

I'm watching coverage live. It'd be so funny if Gordon Brown emerged saying 'well, the Queen doesn't want an election on May 6th...and we'd spent so much on that battle bus...' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Mind you don't spill it down your front then. What a waste of good beer that would be (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |

What's a good picture to illustrate gravitation? Excluding an apple (probably), due to it being Einstein and not Newton we are talking about.
It only needs to be small, like a computer icon sized thing. Actually I am safe to explain it here, as the person concerned definitely doesn't use this forum! A friend is getting married; she is a physicist, her husband-to-be studied physics and works in a technical field though not a professional physicist like her. For their wedding gift, I am doing a cross-stitch of a quote of Albert Einstein: "Falling in love is not at all the most stupid thing that people do - but gravitation cannot be held responsible for it" Those words are in cross-stich, and then in back-stitch I'm going to do Einstien Field Equation (if I have, erm, space and time!) And if I have further space and time, I thought a little picture would be nice, but I can't think of what it should be...falling apple is the obvious but wondered if anyone else could think up anything else (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Could you do a solar eclipse? A little black disc with the light coming out from behind it?
Not my strong point, most of the science being completely over my head, but I have physicists in the house and I'm sure the solar eclipse and Einstein and gravity are linked somewhere (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Good idea...my background fabric is black though. Still a yellow sun and a grey/silver moon will work nicely - the eclipse was used for gravitation and general relativity so it is a very good choice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
