QUOTE(Flossie @ Dec 21 2010, 09:59 PM) *

I had a job interview today. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) I know that academic jobs are really scarce and you need to take what you can get. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif) However, this is a research-only job (teaching is where my heart is) in a different subject area and, having found out more about the research project at the interview, there is absolutely NOTHING I find even vaguely interesting about the job. I don't want to move to a completely different part of the country for a year to do a job that I have no interest in whatsoever. I know that 'a job's a job' - especially in the current climate - but would I be totally crazy to turn it down if I was offered the post? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) I'm kind of hoping they'll offer it to someone else, but they have decided to take up references which I'm a bit concerned about as it sounds like they might be seriously considering me. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

After the trouble my better half has had, I would be tempted to take it.
Bev (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Considering the current climate, I agree with Bev (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

It's not that simple. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) The problem is that if I was offered and accepted the post I would be ruling out any possibility of the career I want, and which I've invested years of time and effort into developing. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) I'm not sure that I'm prepared to do that yet. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Would I be better off working in the local Tesco? - probably... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

It sounds to me as if you know in your heart of hearts that accepting this job would be a bad idea. I can see why others have advised you to take it, but if you have no interest in it at all, perhaps you should follow your heart this time.

I didn't get it and I am quite pleased. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/party1.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Why not? If I'm going for a diploma, you can do a jazz exam! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Would it be AB or Trinity?

Cool : if it's anything like the clarinet and sax syllabi, you'll find some nice stuff there (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Crikey, you're right : Trinity don't. Here was I thinking that the trumpet was a cornerstone of jazz... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Enjoy looking at the syllabi that are relevant! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

The fish finger and sauces discussion makes me want gravy. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

It makes me want fish fingers. However, what I have to eat is a pile of leftover fried noodles, or it'll go off. So no fish fingers for me.

... but we had fish and chips at work today as it was someone's leaving do, so I piled on all the sauces I could find...
