I have an elderly incontinent dog. He wears nice little shorts and inside I have been putting Pampers for a baby of 12 to 25 kilos. But they aren't really absorbant enough. Are there any mothers of small children out there who could suggest what I try next? The pull up type won't do as they have to fit inside his "shorts".

This is a serious question - I am not joking. Tommy is a very old dog but apart from his bladder control remains happy and reasonably healthy. I can't bear the thought of having him put down for the sake of a few puddles.

I've never heard of dogs wearing a nappy - what a good idea! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Dogs usually let out streams of urine a bit at a time rather than flooding as ######es do - perhaps it's just a question of changing the nappy more often? Other than that, I believe you can get nighttime nappies for older children who haven't yet achieved control when asleep. Or can you get larger shorts to accommodate the pull-up type?

Edit: Caught again! I meant female dogs.

How about adult incontinence pads? I have no personel experience of these, but I know of people who have used them for all sorts of things when large volumes of liquids need to be mopped up, including oily bilges in boats!

Has there ever been a thread entitled.. "What gender are you?" because I'm constantly trying to figure out whether forumites are male or female (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

You could look up last year's Forum Awards Thread - Best Looking Male/Female for some clues. But be warned, it doesn't guarantee you'll get the right answer! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
(I'm female by the way. Not sure what difference it makes, though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif) )

Ooooh that's a clever idea! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

With all the recent talk of multiple identities.. I wonder if people also take on multiple genders? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

I wouldn't believe anything about someone's ID over the internet anyway, as according to many news stories, 18 year old females online tend to be big, hairy 56 year old truck drivers called Bob. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Actually Tommy only wears his nappy at night as during the day I can usually. get him outside at regular intervals.
I got his shorts from MMS Sales Wardley, Tyne and Wear after a search on the net. My vet said "Only the English could come up with that!!" MMS also sell the absorbant pads to fit the shorts but it's too expensive to get them sent from England.

I will have a look for nappies for older children but I suspect they might be more the pull up type. The pad has to be flat to fit inside the shorts which are specially designed for a dog's anatomy - there is even a hole for the tail!!

Swell box - I will also look at the adult pads. If they are as absorbant as you say it might do the trick but I expect I will have to cut them in half to get them inside the shorts. I already have to do that with the
Pampers I am using. You can't double them over, which would be ideal because the back has a waterproof layer and this would presumably prevent the urine from being absorbed by the bit doubled underneath.

You really wouldn't think it would be so complicated!!

You tend to get a mental picture of someone and then it's a shock when it's proved wrong later. I phoned a friend that I had "met " on another forum. We knew each other as well as you can in these circumstances, and it was a real shock (even though I knew where she lived) to hear her strong Belfast accent. I now always read her posts with her voice! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
