I was just going through the sky + to put the new series of spooks onto my programme links and I noticed a new series starting next week. It sounds like it is a classical x-factor, aimed at post grade 8 under 19's to find young people suitable for a solo career.

Not sure what it will offer that the Young musician competition won't but might be interesting and I thought I'd bring it to your attention.

There've been a few threads - don't know that any forumites made it on to the televised bit though.

I got an email from the producer about the first episode......

The first episode is the regional rounds where people were invited to play after screening through applications, references and telephone interviews. I made it to this round only, was recorded practising and performing in front of the panel as well as 3 interviews (all bad!). Theres a chance i may be on, even if its just a tiny clip (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) Not sure i want to be on TV!!!!

Being on television in itself isn't too bad, but people coming up saying that they saw you on telly eighteen months after the broadcast gets tiresome (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Tis true! Perhaps having a treble clef as my tag was too obvious!

I think it was "Debz woz 'ere, Dmitri (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) Debz 4eva" scrawled across the top that gave it away, actually... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Mmm, Dmitri (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) <remembers DH at the Barbican on Tuesday, wearing VERY tight trousers> <swoons>

Sorry Digby, I've indulged in some serious hijacking here. If young musicians get a career boost, that must be A Good Thing; BUT I'm not altogether convinced that it's just their musical ability that will be tested. Whilst good looks don't do a career any harm (see my earlier comments in, ahem, this post!), will appearance trump talent? Will the pressure of winning cause the victor to burn out? Will the trauma of losing derail an otherwise promising career?

Ultimately, time will tell, but I'm not convinced by the whole setup.

I'm almost certain that the daughter of a good friend and colleague of mine is on this - I heard her mention something about her living in a special house with others who had been chosen and not being able to contact the outside world while she was in there!
