THE CHRISTMAS CARD

I'm sat here cold and lonely
In a draught and rather damp
With an envelope for company
And a soggy first class stamp

I'm the Christmas Card that's left inside the post box
The postman didn't see me when he came.
I'm sure someone will miss me when they open up their mail
For to lighten someone's life, a christmas card should never fail.
I've got a little robin in a field of glittering snow
With "Merry Christmas" words in gold, entwined with mistletoe,
But the one whose name is on the card will never, ever know.
I'm the Christmas Card that's left inside the post box.

I'm missing all the Christmas fun,
No cheer, No Ho-HO-HO.
So much for Good King Wenceslas
...........So much for G.P.O. !

I'm the Christmas Card that's left inside the post box.
The postman's taken ALL my friends away.
They'll be sitting on the mantlepiece or round a Christmas tree
I'll bet they'll never give a thought to lonesome little me
Me robin's flown to warmer climes, I'm losing all me gold,
The envelope has come unstuck, it's letting in the cold
So I'll have to wait 'til New Year.........when I'll just be to darned old!!
I'm the Christmas Card that's left inside the postbox

Just had my "pome" broadcast on local radio (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/woot.gif)

(again!) Pam Ayres read it out on HER programme when I first wrote it.
