Thanks again to all the new friends I made, can't wait for the next concert. It was great to meet you and Mrs Oldnotes too, and I'm glad you enjoyed it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) The next concert I'm organising in Leeds will be on Saturday 3 January 2009, same venue - Yorkshire College of Music & Drama. It's early days yet, but I'm envisaging that it will be smaller than the summer concert, and this will enable soloists to play slightly longer slots, or two shorter ones. I'm planning for there to be some large ensembles, but not as many as in the summer concert. One of the already confirmed ensemble directors is one of the teachers at the college, who's heard me talk about forum events and seems keen to get involved (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) The January concert will be held under the banner of "Players for Pleasure", which is inspired by the motto of the Yorkshire College of Music & Drama - "for the love of learning and pleasure of playing". Players for Pleasure is an "umbrella" title to describe what is a fairly loose group of learner musicians, mainly but not solely based in Yorkshire, who are looking for opportunities to play at events like concerts, stately homes, retirement homes, bandstands, busking etc. The first Players for Pleasure event, however, is not in Yorkshire but in Somerset - I've arranged for a group of us to play at a stately home there. We can play all day if we want, and it will be a good opportunity for advanced players to perform longer pieces. Beginners are also welcome, and teachers are welcome to offer the performing opportunity to their students. It will take place in the autumn of this year, on a date to suit the majority. I'm not going to promote it much on this forum as it's not a forum event, but if anyone would like more details, please feel free to contact me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Glad you all had a great time on 31st. Matthew has longer hair, Skyers looks totally different from last year (has your hair changed a lot too???) and you all looked like you were playing well and having a lovely time. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
January concert? Perhaps. Might even have my grade 1 by then.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Met a new violinist friend last night. She's post grade 7, (doesn't want the fuss of the grade 8 exam though) and next barn dance party we're at (October), we're gonna give the dancers live music! She can do the jigs OK and I can devise some simple alto/bass part to join in. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) |
