My title says it really - the only information I have come up with so far is that the tempo will be dictated by the bowing requirements, which doesn't seem very specific. Does anyone else know?

Roughly 120 to 130 crotchets per minute would be an acceptable speed at this level.

Seperate bowed notes need to be even, ie. all quavers - although they mark it in the scale books in triplet figures.

At Grade 6 and 7, slurred scales are seven notes to a bow, ie. an octave, which need to be semiquavers in order to fit all the notes into a good full bow. Bow needs to be at a speed that allows sufficient projection of sound.

At Grade 8, slurred are 2 octaves to a bow for two octave scales and 3 octaves to a bow for three octave scales. Fast fingers needed for this, with very good bow control to achieve an even tone.

Have a look at the syllabus, online or printed version, as this details the exact requirements for bowing, but does not indicate speed.
