I have two copies of this, and they both start on different notes. I'm inclined to use the Peters edition one, as i think the other one has been edited but if anyone knows which one is correct that would be great. One starts on D (on the A string) the other on the G on the E string.

Thanks,
x

thanks, i thought it would be the G as the other one looked simplfied so i presume that thats why it starts on the D.

now the question is do i play that, or Kreisler - Zigeuner Caprice in the music festival....

I have performed the Elgar quite a few times over the past twelve months, it always goes down well. I also have two copies of Chanson de Matin, both of which start on G. Elgar's original version is in G major, hence the first note is G, but easier versions do exist, transposed into D major, which consequently start on D. Peters editions are pretty reliable in most cases. Personally, I would play the Elgar in a festival...

The Kreisler sounds good too though... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif)

Use the Novello edition. This edition is faithful to Elgar's original.

Yes, it should start on a G.

Ive just bought this and it starts on a G, its by Novello. I did look at one which had a cd with it with piano accompianment sp which I fancied trying but it said it was an easier version.
