Earlier this evening, the CD drive on my laptop was working fine. Then I tried to rip a CD, and it came up with an error and now won't register that the drive even exists (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
Does anyone have any idea what might have happened or how I could sort it out? Thanks, Sarah |

Thanks, Sarah Hi Sarah! My son says that some CDs are copy-protected and will disable your CD drive if you attempt to copy them. I'm not sure what you are supposed to do about it though! (Presumably you have tried rebooting?) If it persists, you could try contacting your laptop manufacturer. |

It appears to have magically healed itself while i was having dinner (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) so it's all good now. Still a bit of a mystery what happened though, given that its never had a problem with a CD before (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

If you are confident playing with the insides of PCs, you could whip the cover off and have a prod. I do not recommend that approach if you are not versed in such technical interventions. |
