Help! I'm taking the grade 8 piano exam, and I'm having problems turning the pages without interrupting my playing. Any suggestions? Is copying the pages and taping them togheter acceptable in the exam room?

Any suggestions is appreciated.

Photocopying pages is fine, as long as you only use them for the purposes of the exam, and you do actually have the music yourself. That's what I did in my grade 7 exam (though it didn't help much because I forgot to turn the page anyway as I was playing from memory without realising it!) :)

I htought you were allowed page turners at grades 7 or 8 or is that only for clarinets?

You have to get permission in advance for page turners.
You have to give details of where the difficulty in turning is.
I suppose this mesn that if they think you should manage without then it can be refused?

But what if the music is 8 pages long, for example? You still have to do page turns!

re Sboha's post - my teacher did his DipAbrsm in the summer and he was allowed page turners for all but one of his pieces, because the board decided that particular piece's page turn was too easy to have a turner.

I think I read somewhere that examiners realise that turning a page may be problematic and so don't mark harshly when someone takes their time turning a page.

No, the examiners aren't allowed to shout at people, I think that they'd get a few complaints, and lose a few customers!

Thanks for all the responses. Took the test yesterday. Taped the final page to the piece which I had the problem. The examiner did not say anything...
