I don't think a letter from my teacher would be 'good enough'. We spent a good hour-and-a-half in the shop together talking to the lovely man and it got us absolutely nowhere (well, he 'fixed' the recorder again - the crack has since reopened!).

I wonder if the local trading standards office would help? It must be plain to all but the man in the shop that a broken recorder isn't what you wanted. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I think it was local trading standards (well some cambridge county council consumer office thing anyway) that told me I needed a statement from someone who knows what they're talking about (They said a maker or seller of recorders).

His argument is that the crack can be fixed and isn't in a place where it would have an effect on the sound produced (I beg to differ given that the entire body will vibrate when it's played, otherwise all the woods would sound the same!)

If it's the shop I think then they're normally good. I got my old flute from there and my clarinet.

Stupid man! Have you thought of asking Anacrusis for help? Her husband is an expert in matters like this and she is a German speaker. She might be persuaded to write a letter for you if you bribe her ask her nicely.

It most likely is. That's the thing I don't understand - the shop has a really good reputation and I don't remember anyone ever having anything bad to say about them. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Last time it cracked Anacrusis helped out with translating the Mollenhauer website in order for me to send it back to the right place and with the required details etc.

It's not Mollenhauer that I have to deal with now though, so speaking german isn't the issue. I did consider asking her to talk to mollenhauer though before I realised that they weren't the ones I needed to talk to.

I'll give the dutch maker a few more days to reply, then I might have to start thinking of a suitable bribe.
