Have you tried the rodent method as a last resort? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Shout, scream, yell and wail a lot, and for a long time, that you want a nice, new recorder and not a crumby cracked one that has been repaired several times.

Then throw things. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Erm, it was tempting, but I thought that would be more likely to get me thrown out of the shop than a shiny new recorder. I'll keep it in mind for next time though, although I'm hoping never to have to set foot in that shop again!

Perhaps, but then you would ask for a report saying how the situation had caused you stress and you would have the fun of telling the Beak all about your recorder. Then he would agree, get the other party to pay costs and would offer to buy you a new recorder out of his own pocket. A plan eh? Ok maybe now. Fun though. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I've found that a quite effective strategy is to park yourself in the shop and make it clear that you're not going to move until you have redress. When customers come in, repeat your problem loudly and firmly in front of the customers.

I once had a problem with a window replacement company. Eventually I went to the showroom, got out a book and a packed lunch and made it clear that I wasn't going to budge until they refunded my money (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) After several panic-stricken phone calls to his supervisor, the shop manager was advised to close the shop rather than risk me telling any customers what problems I had. I got my refund (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) If only you lived in Cambridge I could just get you to do the honours!

That was the idea last time we went in last time, but we were obviously getting nowhere after well over an hour and my teacher had to get home for a lesson and he also threw at us a loophole in the law to do with wooden instruments which meant that he wasn't obliged to refund. (I've since checked this out and it's completely made up).

I wonder why he is being so daft about it. Shall we send the Village Aunties round with their duck-ended umbrellas?

Do you know any tame solicitors who would write a letter for you? Any friend's parents?

Good cordial, this. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
