Isn't it nice when you can get together with like minded individuals and have fun making music and make some friends along the way (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Thankyou Oldnotes for another pleasant morning of music (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piano.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piano.gif) is good fun and I don't think we did too badly this morning on the whole. Though I'm a good jump behind you ability wise. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/piano.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clarinet.gif) This is more my realm. We had some good fun sightreading through a few pieces. The cakewalk was fun (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) And some of the Finzi Bagatelles seem achievable. The mendelsohn worked rather well too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Till next time. Thankyou.

Anyone else any music making experiences to share? Feel free to use this thread (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Having now met several forum members, I'd echo that - the first was with music-making in mind, and we have had a couple of very enjoyable sessions playing recorder trios; the second two came to look at the museum of harpsichords in which my husband works, and we have since made a good set of friendships based initially more on music-making*, but since branched out into other areas of interest too. Through these we met four more forum members, then another two very touchingly crossed the country to hear a concert I was playing in, and another I have met at a concert in Edinburgh. So not all of these contacts have been ones I've played with, but the fact that we all do make music, and appreciate hearing it, provides the initial link, and finding other points of contact in addition becomes an added bonus. There are one or two more I hope to meet at some point in the future too, as there would be overlapping musical interests, and also out of interest to meet the humans behind the posts out there....

*to the point of sharing an exam experience too, gulp!

You are right, it is a great experience using music to get to know new nice people. So far Bev and I have had just the one playday. We played flute duets, then I accompanied Bev for the solo she will play at Anglesey. We still have to try out a piano duet....... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

DawnF I hope you an Oldnotes have many more playdays, and I hope also to hear the results some day.

I've met quite a few forum people at concerts and through accompanying. Others I have met for different reasons... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I love making music with others, but rarely get the chance. Still maybe another year or two to retirement and I'll be able to do more , even get to a Forum event (Is there Chester one planned ?) A few times a year when I visit daughters in Herts. (or she visits us) we usually play a few violin sonatas , I treasure those moments, but that's about the extent of it at the moment.

I have made some good friends through working with various groups over the years. Sometimes the friendships were far better than the music! It is a great way to meet folks who are on a similar wavelength though.

YOu've hit the nail on the head there Ratty. I feel very comfortable with all my forum friends. Just last January, Daisy Chain, Skylark, Gerald and I went for a meal, and we didn't stop talking from 4pm to 11pm. Music seems to be a real bonding between folk. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Piano duet Gerald (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Oh heavens. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

It's on the 19th September this year.

Would love to see you there! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yay.gif)

This was my initial reaction too but Oldnotes can be very persuasive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I'm glad you were though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I'd have chickened out given half a chance but not now I know you.

We certainly didn't sight read them all - Mainly the carol and Romance and started the Forlana. Not so much the playing of them for me that's difficult but the fitting it with the piano so 100% accuracy in timing. As Oldnotes was sightreading too it was fun to say the least (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Meerkat and I have organised little get-togethers playing ensemble music in Market Harborough in the past.

Hoping to do another one sometime this year, though 'sometime this year' is as far as we're at as far as a date is concerned.

Sounds like much fun. I haven't been able to find such get-together opportunity at my location. If I wanted to make music with others, it seems like I need to play from lead sheets and with serious pop bands. Not that I am against that, just that I can't afford the practise time. Casual jamming is not common, despite the popularity of karaoke here.

How do you all go about it? What kind of music do you play together? Do you need to practise specially for such a get-together event? Piano duets sound like much fun, but I don't know who enjoys such playing...

I have been tempted to pick up the ukulele or the guitar, just so that I can play with other people. I know that if I play a classical piece on the piano, it would be unknown and uninteresting to most of my friends, and they'll just look blank and bored, because they can't join in...
