In my book "30 Italian Songs and Arias" from Edition Peters, bar 50 of "Alma del core" in A major (lyrics: "lab-bro") is:

D minim - B crotchet

But listening to the recordings of Sumi Jo and Pavarotti, they both sing :

D minim - C# crotchet

I wonder if anyone else has another version of the score, and could tell me whether it is B or C#. I am worried that the B in my book is a misprint.
I personally feel that C# leads more smoothly to the 3 F#s (lyrics: "se quel bel") in bar 51.
Any ideas?

Another question: If I were to sing this piece for exams, do I need to add in ornaments in the repeat (D.S. al Fine) ? Or is it fine to sing it straight, without adding mordents all over the place?

It is also in this collection http://www.archive.org/details/twentyfouritalia00newy (Shirmer)
This is in a different key, E, I think its the medium low version of the book
It doesn't have a da capo but has the whole thing set out in one go. Your queried notes seem to be top of page 14 in that edition. Sitting at the computer rather makes it a bit harder to work out, but the B might work, depending on if the accompaniment is different.

How old are the two recordings? How old is the Peters? The Peters is _probably_ more scholarly.

In retaliation, does your book have any A. Scarlatti pieces?
