Just a thought... If enough forumites want to go to a particular Prom (and the one that seems to really stand out is the Argerich Prom on August 30th), would people be interested if I did a block booking, and we had a little forum outing to the Albert Hall? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Just pulled this out of the Proms thread : sign in, or email/PM me if you're interested (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Would like to book the tickets on Tuesday 5th May, and I'll aim for cheap-ish (but still good) seats. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Andante/sarah123, have noted you two down from the previous post (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) list of attendees andante_in_c sarah123 missypiano altoclef3 + 1 oboe d'amore Flossie |

I would have loved to as I've never been to a Prom, but it's the day I go on holiday (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I'm not sure... I'm kind of wishing I hadn't looked at it, because it looks so lovely (Pictures at an Exhibition is one of my favourites (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif)) and I've always wanted to go to a prom - but the last useful train out of Kings Cross is at 10pm (and the first one the next day at 6:15am) and London is big and busy and scary. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I'm feeling torn between really wanting to go and not being sure if I can justify it, because realistically I'd need to find somewhere to stay as well as paying for the prom and the train. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/argh.gif) How soon do you need to know, Barry, and how much are tickets likely to be? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) Could I potentially bring someone who isn't a forum member? I have a friend who lives in Surrey or Sussex (or somewhere that's a long way south...) and there are trains back to hers late at night on Sundays - I've just checked. If I could somehow persuade her that she wanted to come (which is potentially challenging...) then I could maybe stay at hers after - but I probably wouldn't be able to turn up at her house at midnight if she didn't come... |

I am going to see her in Salzburg, Austria (Beethoven Triple Concerto) - the night before the Prom (unless it gets cancelled or re-arranged)
It is easier than getting to London. |

I think the last train back to Cambridge is around 11, otherwise I'd have to wait until 5.15am, although it would still be worth it, it would definitely be simpler if I didn't have to wait at King's Cross over night. Bringing your non-forum friend is fine Flossie. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I don't want to over-spend on tickets, so the aim is to get front circle seats at £17 a throw. The ticket sales open on April 20th, but I think I can stretch to May 5th (the Tuesday after the May Day bank holiday) before booking tickets, to give people a chance of finding out whether they can do it or not. So I'd need to know by then. Ah, that's a good point! Does anyone have a rough idea when it would finish? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) According to the Proms website, it ends at 9:35pm, which gives you a good amount of time to get back to King's Cross. Either walk to South Kensington tube and get the Piccadilly Line, or catch bus 10 from outside the Albert Hall. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

I used to be a fan of Martha (great Prokofiev concertos), but she has been on telly twice fairly recently, and I thought she was terrible ! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I hadn't replied yet because I couldn't make up my mind on which concert I'd like to go to see this year. Last year was an easy one for me. As soon as I saw the Rachmaninov concerto no. 2 was being performed by Stephen Hough I booked it!!!!
This year the ones I would have liked to maybe go and see are: Prom 56: Chopin Piano Concerto No. 2/ R. Strauss Thursday, 27 August, 2009 But the Chopin concerto is performed by Lang Lang. I've never heard him perform it before and I'm not sure I would love his version as much as the Jorge Bolet one.... Prom 22: Classic MGM Film Musicals Saturday, 1 August, 2009 That one sounds interesting and very entertaining....hmmmm... Well, to get back on topic, the Martha concert also sounds good. Probably not my first choice of music but still really good... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) and it would be really nice to go as a group and meet some of you (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) so please Barry count me in!!!!! I'll PM you for details of payments etc..... |
