It would appear that I'm visiting a 'cello teacher next week...

Hurrah! Can't wait to hear how it goes - a new cellist to talk to, yipee!

I'm really excited about these news (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

but I am still 'all alone' with the bass it appears (IMG:style_emoticons/default/argh.gif) no other bass beginner to talk to (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Sorry : but there are certain instruments I just don't feel that I want to play. I love listening to brass bands, but have absolutely no desire to learn any brass instrument, similarly no trad jazz band can be without its bass player, but that bass player would never be me...

The cello-y meeting, by the way, is this coming Wednesday late afternoon/early evening.

That's ok Barry-clari (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) don't feel 'guilty' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
I also never had the desire to learn any brass instrument, equally 'so far' don't have the desire to play jazz bass but purely classical

some things aren't just for 'everyone' I know (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I love cellos! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif)

It went well, thoroughly enjoyed it, and I guess over the summer, I'd better visit a cello shop! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Thanks to iona for all her assistance and guidance : you're a star (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/yay.gif)

Glad you enjoyed it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

What did you do in the lesson?

I discovered at the Leeds concert that I can still play a cello even though I hadn't touched one for rather long time (thank False_harmonic for letting me try). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I stopped learning cello when I was 15 because I had a school instrument and obviously had to give it back when I finished at the end of my GCSEs. I discovered at Leeds that I actually like the cello more than I remembered - but I do love my violin. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif)

When you properly love them, you'll insist on calling them celli and have a desire to maim those who use the plural "cellos" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

What did you do in the lesson?

How to hold a 'cello, how to hold a bow, how to apply said bow to strings and make a half-decent sound, how to play a B on the A string, how to play pizzicato, what to look for in a good cello... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I've only just caught up with you on this one, Barry (haven't been into the Forums much in recent weeks), or I would have suggested a name to you. However, it seems that you have found someone and your lesson sounds to have been very productive. Great that you have joined the cellists! Will you have it with you when I see you at the beginning of July?

Won't have started by then. I'm aiming to go 'cello shopping once the schools have broken up, with an aim to start in the new school year Suepea. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
