Ive recently started playing my violin again (after a 4 year break, i kno hanging head in shame) and had the hassle of trying to get a sulking violin to stay in tune and realised part of the reason why i stopped playing in the first place, im 6'4" and its waaaaay to cramped, ive recently bought a viola but would still like to continue playing my violin, and am just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem or can give me the names of some violinists who are of a similar size so i could see how they play and see if that helps.

Great you have started playing again (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Well I'm 6'2'' but only been playing 3 months or so, not much help... When you say cramped, in what sense, large fingers or just generally? I found a good shoulder rest that is adjustable made a huge difference for me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) that solved one problem, but still leaves the problem of needing a music stand about a foot taller than most of the ones sold in shops! it feels cramped in the my left arm feels uncomfortably tight to my chest, dont think it will actually go much closer.
yeah its nice to start again altho my violin really needs some TLC from a luthier. Hadnt thought about the music stand, definately something worth a try (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) |
