Gershwin Piano Concerto Options

I was wondering if anybody knew what this concerto was like in terms of technical difficulty, and if anybody had any advice on playing the concerto, because I would be very interested in learning it in the near future.

I don't play it, but a friend played it last year and finished second in an international concert for students who are not music specialists. (He was in the last year of a Physics degree at the time, but is now studying piano at the conservatoire).

I gather from him that is difficult, but not horribly difficult. Harder than a typical Mozart concerto or Beethoven No 1 or No 3, but not so difficult as the concertos of Brahms and Rachmaninoff.

Perhaps PianoDoodler can provide some guidance on how to approach it?

It's good to know it's not horribly difficult compared to some others. I'm hoping to learn a concerto from september onwards. My teacher has sugested learning the Grieg or the Tchaikovsky (I think the Tchaikovsky is too difficult, but apparently it's easier than you think according to my mad teacher! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) ), but also to have a look at others before I decide.

Any other advice?
