I just received this:

From: "Chetham's International Summer School and Festival for Pianists" <info@pianosummerschool.com>
Date: 2 July 2009 13:01:15 GMT+02:00
To: XXXXXXXXX
Subject: Summer School FULL

Dear Mr XXXX,
I am very very sorry but the summer school is completely full. There is no way that I can fit you in either with a bed or with a teacher.
We will destroy your deposit cheque of course.
I do hope you can apply early next year to be sure of a place.
With best wishes and many apologies.

Apologies to skylark, who I talked into attending for a day, ((IMG:style_emoticons/default/embarassed.gif)) and all the other members of the forum that are attending, and who had I hoped to meet.

You will have to wait another year to find out if I can really play, as well as talk about it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Could you not sneak in as another member's Evil Twin ?

How MADDENING !!!!!

Would it be worth asking if there is a waiting list for any last minute cancellations?

(sorry, I've just read the post back, I didn't mean to imply you are evil....... )

Sometimes you can go on these things as a 'spectator'- and sometimes 'spectators' get to participate. It might be worth asking about that. You would get to meet people and learn alot, if not play to them etc.

Done, but not hopeful.

Not really practical, flight, car-hire, finding accomodation. Besides, part of the attraction was total immersion in practice and study for a whole week, with performance opportunites along the way.

Never mind.
Take Mrs MT on a cruise instead. No, I don't know of any that allow guests to use the grand piano - if I did, I would let Mr mel2 book us onto it.

Given that people have been going on about this course since last year it was rather last minute wasn't it?

Perhaps you can book ahead for the next one. I won't be going (sounds too much like boarding school!) but then no one is burning with curiosity to hear my playing. (Phew!) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I'm afraid so (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Week 1 is definitely full, no more observers either (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I got a week 2 observer place ( i wanted week 2 anyway) Maybe there are still some observer places left?

Good luck! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Checked the website, it says on the News section that it's fully booked, the course is now closed! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) GRR! But my friend from last year didn't get his form in either, so slightly less raged! Well, I guess I've saved up all this money now, so this is good. I am so putting my form in it the second they become available next year!

I'm so sorry for those of you who didn't get a place this year. I'm almost feeling guilty for having booked 2 weeks, including extra lessons. It's meant a lot of saving up, but I know it's worth every penny, it really is the highlight of my year. I've always been a bit scared of it becoming fully booked, so I've always sent my application in early. It must be very crowded this year, if both weeks are fully booked.

Sorry I'm not going to meet you this year, Mad Tom - hope I will next year!

Thats a huge shame you can't go this year! I'm hoping to go next year, so I may meet you all next year! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

In a way it's a good thing, obviously not for the people who didn't get in, but the fact that it's so popular and that there are all these pianists applying, it's just a shame they can't accomodate everybody who wants to attend. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

That very nice Kathryn Page has since eMailed to offer me a place at the EPTA 3-day conference that takes place just before the summer schools. A sort of mini-summer-school.

Sadly I don't think it will be possible for me to get time off work for that particular week.

But it is still very considerate and gives you faith in human nature.
