except for my confounded C#/G# key which got waterlogged and ruined all the Ab's in the recapitulation!!

Probably the most common key to get waterlogged : it's not in a good position on the clarinet to drain any excess water. Have a look at the pad : there's a good chance it needs changing - very frequently, you'll need to change this pad ahead of any general overhaul.

I was hoping it wasn't the pad as I recently had it changed to cork. The clarinet was standing for about half and hour before the performance, when I'd played it in the rehearsal, so maybe the water had gathered then?

That's a distinct possibility : if any key will suffer as a result of this, it's that one!

I always swab mine out if we have a break in the middle of rehearsal even though it's only 10 minutes. If I don't I'm pretty much guaranteed to start gurgling somewhere.

Had a very useful lesson last night.

As I haven't played anything other than my Glasgow forum piece for a week, I didn't have anything to show my teacher. So we started playing pieces from "Second Book of Clarinet Solos" as a sight reading exercise. As my teacher was accompanying me, I didn't have the luxury of changing my tempo as I wish or stopping to figure out Gb is F#. I had to keep moving...

Teacher was quite stern and did not give me any leeway. I tend to gather speed and cut short long notes. One point during the lesson he said "You keep pushing and pushing me. I am not going to let you get away with it!!" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Another time he threatened to throw books at me!! All in good spirit though...

Towards the end of my lesson, I could notice the improvement. I quite enjoyed the whole experience and we decided we should this more often. Now I am on a hunt for old Grade 2-4 level books with accompaniment.

And once you've learned to keep a steady tempo you'll be getting similar pushing about not taking the lead enough..... you just can't win! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Flute band pieces - not loving the abundance of flat keys, and more ATCL work on clarinet. Starting to feel a bit stressed as recital and diploma looming (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I *think* I might be around on 29th June : where is your recital? (PM/email/text me if you don't want to reveal location online) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

All the best in your preparation! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clarinet.gif)

I've had one of those days today with the clarinet. I didn't feel like the instrument was being very responsive and I was having to work to get notes and the tone that I wanted. AND I was squeeking all over the place, not like me at all - not good (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

But on the other had I did have great fun learning the lower octave fingering on my fluorescent green descant recorder (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) a treble will be mine in the imminent future......

Aw RAM, hope you're getting on better now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

On (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clarinet.gif) I've been going over part of a piece for band and done some work on pieces for lesson on Friday.

On oboe, worked on some exercises and a couple of short pieces, again, for my lesson on Friday.

Too warm to practise, but feel guilty for not playing.

Oh well.
