Half an hour today (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) scales and Saint-Saens. You're right schraeubchen, it is great to be able to practise properly again. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yay.gif) Great to hear you went back to practise! Thanks, you too (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

I had my first proper practice for about 3 weeks - hmmmmmm. Mixed feelings. Pleased with my scales but I'm very conscious that there is still a heck of a lot of work to do if I'm to attemp Grade 8 in November/December. Not quite so happy with pieces; the Devienne isn't flowing as well as I'd like to, in the slurred or staccato section.
Unfortunately my first practice session for three weeks, will be my last for two (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) There's a lot of work to do when I get back!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif) |

Great. I love the Saint Saens. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I have been doing scales and bits from the Mozart quintet. Lucky me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

I've not done much actual practise today, mainly scales, but I do feel like playing in Church is a reasonable exercise for stamina - it's certainly tiring enough right now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

Had a lovely session reading through the Weber Grand Duo and the Burgmuller Duo with pcf - great fun but I'd forgotten how much stamina they take.

The beautiful "Les Cygnes" by Henri Busser (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) - although I'm sure parts sound like "l'Apres midi d'un faune" by Debussy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) but I'm really enjoying playing it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Cannot believe it is Grade 6 on ABRSM but 7 on Trinity (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) Oh, and also "attempting" F# Major scale/arpeggio and Eb Minor scale/arpeggio, both harmonic and melodic (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) - I'm sure my teacher hates me this week haha. |

There's a few pieces where the ABRSM grade is lower than TG, and the other way round too ... |

Ah, I had that, too. Lovely piece. I guess the different levels derive from different requirements for the grades. There is only so much one can do within a year, and some want rhythmic challenges at a later time, some tonal ones. So, I guess, it just comes to what each examination board thinks for their own level important. They will probably meet at some point in time again. I myself am so occupied, I hardly know what to do first. I am proud to announce, that I memorized my first piece ever. The Allegretto from Suite de Trois Morceaux by Benjamin Godard (accompanied). The Idylle is already half done, too. It took me only 2 weeks for the Allegretto. However, the Idylle will take longer, since I started with that piece, and didn't know how to memorize best. That's something, I believe, has to be learned as well; how to memorize. So I got some mistakes in it, which need ironing out again. But it isn't as bad as it might sound. And today, I started memorizeing Cantilena by Poulenc, and got already to the middle of page 1. I just ordered the accompaniment for Canzone by Barber, and have about 10 other pieces on my list for memorizing. It's hard to find the time to prepare anything (aside maybe the Canzone) for the next exam. I am still not sure, but I guess, I will do G7 in March, not in November. I am just to busy to do for once what I want, not what I am required to do in sight of upcoming exams, and I love it! Although, I have to admit, I am also working on the Danse de Mouche by Koehler, which would be the G7 solo, and I already did the Tartini a while back. So, I guess, I could go for it in November. But then again, I would hate to put more pressure on myself than I need to. And I am busy doing rhythmic studies by Berbiguier and Koehler. I am surprised to see myself running through those. I am now getting more and more secure with speeds between 72 and 96, although I have to admit I find it surprising, how fast a 72bmp piece can suddenly seem to be, when the challenges within the piece are high enough. Then it feels more like a 100 then a 72. |

Started with The Great Train Race by Ian Clarke on the weekend and continued today - producing already the first very cute steam clouds (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) That piece is soooooooooooooooooooo amazing!
Godard - Suite de Trois Morceaux Allegretto (finally completely from memory and with piano accompaniment, ending together with the piano) Idylle (finally all flaws from my first memorizing attempt ever removed and more than half done memorizing with piano) Valse (first attemts to play accompanied, which actually partially works already) First attempt on Barber - Canzone some Saint-Saens - Romance some scales and Berbiguier etudes |

I did some irregular practise during the holydays. Mostly funstuff and some homework for september. Thursday is the first trainingband practise so I did some band pieces last week. Did better than I expected. Couldn't play a much as I wanted because of chestpains.
The grade three book I can play rather well now so I'm thinking about to buy the grade four book. |
