Too warm to practise, but feel guilty for not playing. Oh well. I also suffer in heat like we have at the moment : and tend to lean towards morning practice as far as is possible on such days, before the heat becomes too intense. This is also a reason why I avoid session B exams for myself if at all possible... |

My orchestra has a performance evening coming up and they encourage people to play individually as well, so I've been practising a piece for that a lot. I'm not convinced I've got the confidence to stand up and play it in front of everyone though.

Whilst I am not chasing my G5 I am playing purely for fun with Jane on piano; I wish I could do her better justice, though!!!!
Pieces like - Tchaikovsky Andante Cantabile - when we really get this piece right (my counting) it almost brings us to tears. Like - Paul Harris - Clarintewise and Finzi Five Bagatelles - III Carol - just beautiful to play as well as the pieces in Let's Face the Music - one day I will get through these without a mistake. And each week we select one new piece. I guess I will get back to Grades before too long so this is a beautiful interlude. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clarinet.gif) |

Managed twenty mins of clari this evening, it's just too warm. Worked on a couple of bars and made a teeny bit of progress!

I bought Donizetti Clarinet Concertino on Saturday and since then I couldn't stop playing the first movement! It has quite a lot of altissimo notes (poor neighbours!) but I am enjoying it.
Today, my teacher gave me Cimarosa Concerto for Oboe for practice (transcribed for Clarinet). Never heard of it, so will have to look it up on youtube. |

This I lovely piece - I did the first movement for my Grade 7. In the clarinet concert that I played in on Monday two different people played it (bit of a programme mix up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ), it was weird to hear a piece that I know so well played very differently - in this case much faster than I ever played it. The cadenza is where you can really make this piece shine - really long and clear high F! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) And my bass clarinet playing was good, if I say so myself, I got all my quaver lead-ins right! Another person took our rehearsal this Saturday and it was very nice to get positive comments about how well I played the bass and my sight reading ability. I just listened to the Oboe version, quite pleasant (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ! I wonder how the clarinet version sounds.... My teacher is an Oboe player (he plays most instruments to be honest!!). The clarinet part was an add on that came with his Oboe sheet music. Well, certainly NEITHER Handel, Busser, Koehler, Chopin OR Rachmaninoff. That stuff is by now growing out of my ears!
But seriously, I am working now specifically on pulse patterns. I try to become a human metronome. And I started some new pieces today. Ganne: Andante et Scherzo and Mozart: Andante ma non troppo (which is I believe an exam piece for G7 or G8, don't know which). I picked up some old stuff as well, especially Bach BWV 1007 (one movement is also an exam piece for one of the last two exams). And I am working with the Gariboldi and Berbiguier etudes now, instead of Koehler. I did so much Koehler, I really have to move away a little from that stuff. Oh, no, I didn't. I made for metronome work a restart on op. 66. But at least, I haven't played those for quite some time. And Flute Players Companion Bk. I also a restarted that for metronome work. Funny how fast that didn't work anymore when doing the metronome counting I want to learn. Was testing around today; not much really serious work yet. Have to get some distance from my last exam first. But since I do not have all pieces accompanied on cd yet, I am doing some interlude with stuff I really want to learn and believe necessary to learn. My accompanist in the exams has an exam herself, and when that is done in six weeks, she will do the audio files for me, which I need for practice. I guess then, my schedule will become more exam oriented again. But until then, I am duty free and ready to roll. |

Ganne is nice.
Frustrated at lack of motivation, energy and time to practise. |
