Oooo, sounds good bassoonista (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

My lesson went well, scales to start with then played through the study, minus a couple of sharps but hey!! Moved onto a new piece - the Saint-Saens Sonata (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yay.gif) played the first bit with the piano accompaniment, twiddly bit was very slow and with teacher playing too, then last bit with piano accompaniment (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Can't wait to get stuck into it properly (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Wrist had had it after half an hour so onto theory stuff (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Hope your wrist gets better! Are you using any kind of support?

I haven't played my clarinet for nearly a week (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Feeling quite guilty; I blame the Olympics!

I planned to catch up over the weekend but with two countries to support at the Olympics, I didn't get much time... will try to do few hours of regular practice this week

Hi, thanks balu, I am using an elasticated support when having to use the wrist but today it's really painful again. Hopefully a few days off the manual handling will allow it to settle down. In the mean time, no clari (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Hope you manage to get some playing done soon balu (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Had a flute lesson this morning and my teacher casually says, "oh you'll be ready for Grade 8 this term!" ... gulp (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)
Think I'd better start perfecting those scales and work on the dreaded aural!

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I understand your gulp. Decided to go on practising scales after my grade 7 exam in May to provide gulp in this part for grade 8. And I also think gulp looking at the dreaded aural. Have fun anyway.
And congratulations for reaching this.

Thanks. Went through every scale/arpeggio/dom 7th/dim 7th yesterday and there are probably about six I really need to work on. The others aren't too bad. Aural, however is dreadful! Now I know I'm not retaking my ATCL at Christmas, I may have a go at Grade 8 Flute, but I'll decide nearer the time. Are you doing Grade 8 this term too schraeubchen?

Next lesson will be next week tuesday. Next wednesday is my first theory lesson. I know most of it already but I'm dreading the recognizing intervals by ear part. I need to do this exam before my practical exam. I hope in januar but I think it will be a year later. ( for A exam they want 2 or 3 years lessons).
What I most liked from playing in the holydays is that I didn't have to play ave verum. I played it three months everyday until playnight and at the end I got really bored by it.

I had a sax lesson on Friday. He had me doing scales / arpeggios / various modes by sight (we've not done them before). So, I went straight through: Cmaj, Amin, Dmaj, Bmin, Fmaj, Dmin, Gmaj, Emin, Amaj, F#min, Bbmaj, Gmin, Ebmaj, Cmin, Ab maj, Fmin, Emaj. We stopped there (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

We went through several pages of his book of scale exercises. Teacher was very happy - he said he's not used to just giving them to people and they just play two octaves straight off (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) . He's also not used to having adult students who understand the theory and he doesn't have to try to explain it all to...

Just need ot learn to play some tunes... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Tomorrow is cello lesson... assuming my left arm will let me....

Yes, there are so many scales and arpeggios to practise for grade 8. I still struggle with scales in thirds and I mostly forget that it is three octaves to play in c major for grade 8.
I am not doing Grade 8 this term, maybe next spring. I am not sure. I will have the first lesson after summer holidays on Thursday and I don't think teacher will talk about grade 8. I just sat grade 7 in May and I think there is much more to do until I will be ready for grade 8.
Do you already know which pieces you will play?

I'm playing Ian Clarke's Sunstreams, Mozart's Rondo in D and Bullard's Agile Flute. The two accompanied pieces are getting there, but the Agile Flute, isn't that agile at present! I only did Grade 7 at Easter and wasn't expecting to do Grade 8 at least until Easter, but will practice hard till the closing date and see what state everything is in. So long as I know all my scales quite fluently and my study is in a bit better shape, I may go for it.

All the pieces seem to me not easy at all. I worked through the Mozart Concerto this spring and the Rondo is still not as good, as it should be. Have not taken a look on the Clarke and the Bullard, but I suppose they aren't easy to play (well, talking about grade 8).
My fingers are crossed for you. And hope to hear about your plans from time to time.

Had cello lesson yesterday - following an hour of physio on my left elbow / forearm (to address teh tendinitisI seem to have acquired (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ).

Ran the Pincinetti sonata - I was disappointed about how it went, but teacher seemed Ok about it...

Then we started looking at scales and started with C - THREE octaves - eek!
