Hello.

I am not very familiar with the bass recorders, I do play soprano and alto but this is the first time I am getting my hands on a bass recorder. I purchased one recently but noticed it only has one hole and one key for the low F. How would I be able to play low F# on this? I have seen some websites that replace the keys but they are very costly. Any help, tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

I'm afraid that if there's only one key down there, you don't have an F# (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Sorry.

You could practice half-closing the key, but it would be a tricky business and require a very light touch ...

It'd be difficult at best, and impossible in many cases - the only thing to say is, rest assured, there isn't so very much music for bass which would demand it....

That's true. The split key on the bass recorder is a relatively new invention - so lots of music has been written with the assumption that your instrument can't do an F#
On rare occasions at our SRP meetings where there is a low F# (or low C# for tenors), the those without split keys simply play that note an octave higher if they don't want to just skip it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

thanks a lot for your responses....

i really love the sound of the bass recorder... although i am still having a very hard time with the lower notes especially A G and F notes they sound very weak when I try to blow slow but very high pitch when I blow just a little strong. Any tips on this?
