It's a relief to know you're OK, Andrew. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Glad to hear you're managing to play but do take it carefully... Well done on your theory result ! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) QUOTE Bad news today... Job interviews (part of the restructuring process) are being planned for that week. Fingers crossed my boss will agree to put it off until the week after. Fingers crossed for you. I can imagine that it is not a good idea to try and explain to your boss that the oboe is more important than his interviews (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) I have just coming back from playing my Gabriel's Oboe solo. This time my fingers only started shaking once I'd finished, which was an improvement on June when they shook the whole time I was playing the solo. We were playing in a church and the acoustics were very different to the place where we usually rehearse so I wasn't really sure what it sounded like. However, my younger daughter recorded it on her phone and, even though the recording quality is very poor, I was pleasantly surprised by it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) . |

I am on a high after tonight's concert (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
My teacher said that it was the best he had ever heard me play in public; fluid, expressive, in tune (even the 3rd octave E), no perceptible trembling in the sound, properly controlled breathing, unperturbed by the mistakes the pianist was making ... I feel that I have finally turned a corner and put the crippling performance anxiety behind me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/woot.gif) I started shaking when I'd finished playing (so much so that I missed the bottom of the oboe the first time I tried to drop the pull-through into it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) ) but that doesn't matter. I'm going back to see him briefly tomorrow to choose a new piece to start working on over the holidays. He is organising an oboe/bassoon day with a colleague at the end of March and a very competent pianist is coming to accompany. He suggested I make the most of it and choose something with a particularly hard piano part (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/party2.gif) (I'm very envious! Sounds like a good opportunity in March too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Glad to hear you are back on the oboe Katica, hope your bad camp goes ahead. Andrew - glad to hear you are on the mend. Sounds like you concert went well too Pushpull. Seems like we are all doing well going into Christmas. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Anybody hoping for oboe related presents? I have some money from my Godparents which will go on either a CD or some new music I think. |

Yes (I have an ever-renewable wishlist) but I'm not holding out too much hope. My dad's girlfriend gave me a Howarths voucher last year, though. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

My dad's girlfriend gave me a Howarths voucher last year, though. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I didn't know these existed but they sound like a very good idea (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) (Although did you manage to limit yourself to the amount on the voucher?) After seeing my teacher today, I have narrowed my choice of piece down to: Pixis Oboe sonata (3rd movement) Kalliwoda: Morceau de Salon Ponchielli: Capriccio I think the Pixis wins on "most difficult accompaniment" but the 3rd movement is the one that that I like the least. I have liked both the Kalliwoda and the Ponchielli for a long time but am not convinced that I am good enough (or have the stamina) to play them all the way through. |

I really like the Kalliwoda and hope you take up the challenge. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Some parts do seem pretty difficult - I know I am several years off being able to tackle it, if ever. Nice piano accompaniment to play, I would think, for an experienced accompanist. My boss seems amenable to changing the date of my interview to accommodate my week's leave in Jan, which is great. Looks now as though it may be February, if the other panelists agree. I hope that is a good sign that they don't really want to have to end up opening the post up externally... I am keeping the oboe stuff down to 15 minutes at the moment. I don't have the stamina yet and by then my guts are feeling a bit sore, especially if I'm breathing properly. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Some parts do seem pretty difficult - I know I am several years off being able to tackle it, if ever. Nice piano accompaniment to play, I would think, for an experienced accompanist. I have a CD which has both of them on and I like both. My teacher described the Ponchielli as being a more sophisticated version of Kalliwoda and said he would understand if I liked it better as he felt that it was a slightly more introverted piece. The Kalliwoda finishes on a 3rd octave G; which is one of the things that puts me off playing it as I'm not sure that I would still be able to get a top G out after playing the whole thing. A quick sight-read through this morning made me think the Ponchielli was marginally easier but my teacher didn't agree (although he did say there wasn't much in it). Well Done everyone - sounds like there have been some great concerts & I'm so pleased for you Kerioboe - as you say - sounds like you'vre turned a corner. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap.gif)
Glad to hear you're on the mend Katica - please don't overdo it though & set yourself back. Have had a pretty horrendous time at work lately which has limited the amount of energy I've had to devote to music, but I now have 2 weeks off, so hope I get get some proper practice done now. as well as having time to play some chamber music with friends. It was good to blow the dust off my cor anglais yesterday evening to play some trios with my teacher & another pupil. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

I'm off to England for ten days tomorrow without the oboe (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
So as not to suffer withdrawal symptoms too much, I have decided to take reed-making equipement to tie on reeds. And I can already feel that Howarths is calling .... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |
