Please cross your fingers for me that my most embarrassing moment isn't in this afternoon's exam! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/fingersCrossed.gif)
Remember to take the oboe AND the reed (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
And (more seriously because I rarely do) to take a proper breath before you play your first note.

Thank you! That´s not a silly reminder.
I did forget them for the Christmas concert! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

At a music festival once.
I walked up with my violin and proceeded to try and adjust the rather rickety music stand. I couldn't get it to extend, got more and more tangled with stand, long hair, bow and violin, until finally the adjudicator himself stood up and came over to help. After much tussle and tangle he finally got it to the right height, I thanked him and he sat down -
time to start..
It was only then I remembered I was playing from memory...
With split second thinking, I cooly moved the stand aside, nodded to the accompanist and launched into my Brahms (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Couldn't look the adjudicator in the face for any of my other classes (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I have so far managed not to embarrass myself.. but I still have plenty of years to do so. Embarrassing things I've observed at other people's performances are-

* Pianist comes out, takes a bow. Walks offstage and returns carrying piano stool. (That was really a fail on the part of the people who set up for the concert and not his fault at all)

* At a performance of the Beggars Opera, soprano's skirt falls off revealing her undies (quite substantial so no indecent exposure). Male soloist pats her on the backside and puts it back on for her. It kind of worked because of the subject matter anyway

* Various items of conductor apparel flying off when head is tossed violently- at one concert it was spectacles, at another (different conductor), a glass eye.

This reminds me of an orchestral rehearsal years ago when the conductor had got a bit hot and was wrestling with her jumper while wildly still conducting. She finally managed to wrench it over her head and tossed it out of the way behind her.
Unfortunately it went straight out of the window..
More unfortunately, her T-shirt underneath was still attached to the jumper..
Even more unfortunately, we weren't on the ground floor..

At the age of nine when I had been playing tenor horn for about a year, (learned it through my school) myself and the other tenor horn player were asked to play a duet in the assembly for the whole school.
During the performance I sneezed and dropped my instrument.
Needless to say almost everyone burst out laughing except myself, as I promptly burst into tears.

I had to sit in a rehearsal for 3 hours front desk of 2nd violins infront of the conductor with his flies undone. Noone had the guts to tell him.....

Not quite embarrassing, we saved ourselves just in time, but me and the two other tenor saxes in the school jazz band at a concert guessed between us which piece was first (we didn't have a programme). As you can expect, we guessed the wrong piece! It's a good job there was a four bar piano introduction for us to change the music over! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) The conductor gave us a very disapproving look as we giggled and noisily swapped music while the introduction was happening! Ohhh, that frequently happens in our trumpet section-not that I'm giving our trumpets a bad name, or anything! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

You can imagine a seasoned concert pianist sittinng down to play the Schumann Piano Concerto (the piano comes in almost immediately), yet hearing the drum-roll of the Grieg instead and suddenly having to adjust! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Better perhaps though than expecting the orchestral introduction to Beethoven's 1st/2nd/3rd Piano Concerto when the orchestra stare at you in a pregnant pause, because it's actually the fourth that you're meant to be playing and they're waiting for you to make the first move! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

Don't be fooled though, into thinking that this has happened - I hope not .... I wouldn't wish it anyone!

we did the opposite to my conductor in uni- April Fool's Day rehearsal. We handed out the opening page to Beethoven's 5th, and
at a pre-arranged point in the rehearsal when there was a downbeat, he got that instead of the Bartok Concerto for Orchestra.
