Now Thank We All Our God (Tom Howard arrangement) because I'm trying to learn to play it by ear. I do have a soft spot for 80s piano music sometimes..........

Forever Autumn. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) Back in the 80s we lived in Darlington, and one of our three lads borrowed from a friend a copy of Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds LPs and, ahem, they accidentally found their way onto a cassette*. Living where we did, it was always a long car journey to see family (Essex and Sussex) and friends we had made when we lived in Coventry, and we were each allowed to choose a couple of cassettes for communal listening in the car, the rules being that we were allowed to choose anything that we liked and there were to be no complaints when it was our turn to listen to our choice. You have just reminded me. We bought our eldest (now 16) a Postman Pat songs cassette tape for his third birthday, which we thought was very good in small doses, but he absolutely loved it. When we went on holiday to Devon that year he insisted on playing this tape in the car all the way there, and all the way back. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Thankfully there was a silent section at one end of the tape which was just bliss. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Worse still, he worked out that motorway service stations all had Postman Pat rdes, so every time he saw a sign for 'Services' he told us he wanted the lavatory. And of course one doesn't take chances with a three year old. That was a veeeeery long journey. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) To answer the original question: Elegy by Sir George Thalben Ball, which the same son is working on for his AB organ exam right now. It is a wonderful peice of music, and much better than Postman Pat! SB |

As a result, I became able to sing every word of every song, and even mastered most of Richard Burton's dialogue. ("Who would have believed......"). I have to say that I never tired of listening to Forever Autumn, and the words "...'cos you're not here" always brought a lump to my throat. *I am so sorry for this bit of illegal practice, and by way of compensation I have bought the CD Special Edition, the DVD of the live performance, and been to see a live performance in Sheffield. Absolutely great stuff! I've only just seen this, and had to add that our family had a very similar experience - it was loved by all our boys, and kept us going through many a car journey. In fact, whenever I hear any part of the WotW I am immediately transported to an alpine pass as we listened to it whilst driving through the Alps to Italy. My OH is going to see the live show in a couple of weeks (but I was otherwise engaged at a certain Houseparty!). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

'Let it snow'! Ha ha ha. And we chose not to sing it at a concert on Friday as we'd sung it there years ago and thought they might remember. What a missed opportunity.
