I'm looking to buy a light spare violin case for carrying my violin back and forth to music college in September
...was going to be relatively sensible and buy a blue bam contoured case, but when i went to the violin shop the first thing that i saw was this baby pink fiberglass case (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)
In terms of the actual case, it's very practical - it has a music pocket INSIDE the case behind the bow holders, is waterproof, robust, can be worn as a backpack and is fairly light.
Would i look really silly if i went to music college with a pink case (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) This is me thinking too much into little things but i dont want to look like i dont take it seriously (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

...mmmm PIINNKK (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif)

btw. it's the pink Hima one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Go for it. They're good cases and why not pink?! At least you won't pick up the wrong one from the mass of black cases - and likewise, other people will be less likely to pick yours up by mistake!

Yes i thought that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Less likely to lose it, and no-one will steal it as it'll be soo obvious (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I'll still have my nice (but so heavy) musafia case for when maybe a pink case IS inappropriate (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Definitely go for pink - there's a girl in the year above me with a bubblegum pink cello case and there's plenty of other not-black-and-serious cases around, so you won't look silly at all (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I was teaching a second year class the other day, and thinking "For people who've spent up to 15 years in kindies and schools dedicated purely to creating conformist, groupthink kids, this bunch is obviously a COMPLETE FAILURE!!!" If students in Japan quickly shed their conformist shells, I don't think you need to worry too much in the UK...and I can guarantee that about a fortnight into term will be the last time you wonder whether this or that is really what college students do/think/wear/carry!

Have a great time at college!

I have a pink camera (and a big black serious one for when I'm being a grown up) and a pink case for my ipod and I'm really really old so I think you'd be just fine.

And I've heard Hima cf cases are very good?! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

A pink case is so cute, if it does the job who cares about the colour (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I have the metallic turquoise Hima case and I adore it. It is as light as a feather and strong. Obviously it's only CF reinforced so you couldn't sit on it but strong for the weight.

So go for it!

How much music can the pocket inside take? I'd be so scared of it 'collapsing' on my violin!

Have to say - I don't know. I carry my music in a Radley handbag, so I don't use the pocket. I chose the case because it fits my Bon Musica shoulder rest, rather than for the music pocket. Oh and I love the vivid colour too.

Sorry not much help there - but didn't want you to think I was ignoring your question.

have fun with your hima case, I am now 'learning' to play with a little sponge covered in crush velvet hidden under my t-shirt and no shoulder rest (IMG:style_emoticons/default/eek.gif) I am doing ok, but am not playing any sarasate or paganini 'yet' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)
