hello fellow string players! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wave.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

So as part of my A level music I have to do a 15 minute recital with a discussion bit about the influences behind how it was performed etc, etc..

Normally I love performance!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) but.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) my poor classical guitar has been gathering dust recently and by the time I see my teacher next it will have been 3 months since my last lesson sooo getting this recital together was proving a *little* just, just, just a little bit hard! Today in lesson we were supposed to be doing a mock performance when I could only play a third of my recital! eeeeeeeeeeek!

Then suddenly before I could even remove my guitar from its case, I'd somehow managed to talk my music teacher (who I thought would never EVER agree) into letting me do this recital on viola instead!!! I asked her in only half seriousness! On the plus side its a lot easier to prepare the discussion bit with viola than classical guitar (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

soooo now I'm excited but a liiiitle scared, I have a few weeks to work really hard to pull together a recital of Baroque Viola music at about grade 5/6 level (IMG:style_emoticons/default/eek.gif) (any ideas folks? I've got Bach bouree I and II and the first two movements of Telemann's viola concerto in G major but I have another 5 mins to fill!) This doesn't sound too bad I bet, but for me it's CRAAAAAZY!!!!!!! I've only been learning a year and a month!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) Now, time to (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) and try get my head round this crazy new change in recital plans...
BRING IT ON! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

Sounds like fun! Just had a look at the syllabuses for grades 5/6 and tried to remember what I was playing at that level. It looks like you want something romantic or later, so why not try the second movement from Vaughan Williams' suite (I believe it's titled "Carol") or Faure's Apres un Reve? I think Rebecca Clarke also has some wonderful short and not too difficult pieces.
Best of luck! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
EDIT: Sorry, I'm an idiot - completely missed the "Baroque" part! Why don't you finish the Telemann concerto?

Hello Guitar tempo! For 5 mins of Baroque viola music, I would suggest a movement or two from Eccles' G Minor Sonata. It's probably about the right level for you, and it is absolutely lush! Or in a similar vein, how about part of Marcello's Sonata in G.

PS Hope you enjoy both preparing for this recital and performing!
