This piece of music was originally projected to be a third concerto by the great composer, but it is likely that he never wrote the orchestral parts for it. In 1841 he wrote a letter to a publishers offering them a grand Concerto in A major for 12000 francs, although he had no luck with this. Later in the year he wrote a letter to the same publishers, offering them an Allegro Maestoso in A major ("of 3me concerto") for solo piano and he also offered this to a second publisher. This offer was made for 1000 francs. This piece, Allegro de Concert Op 46 was then published by both publishers, one in Nov 1841 and the other in Dec 1841. I think it is wonderful, although, to any seasoned Chopin fan ( (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ) it will be immediately obvious that the orchestration was not done by Chopin. The orchestra are far more prominent in this than his two concerti Op 11 and Op 21...
