I need to replace my strings. I currently have obligatos and I see no reason to change.

Just have a couple of questions.

what is the difference between goldplated and steel E strings?

I am buying the strings online and they come loose or packeted. Loose is cheaper but will they be marked in any way so I know which is which?

Gold plated should sound warmer, a little more mellow.

I always buy loose strings (from the Stringzone) - they do come with a label on the little plastic bag telling you which colour is which string.

like jessy said, loose ones come with a label telling you which one is which (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I only ever used the gold E from obligato so can't tell you about the other I'm afraid (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I've fairly recently swapped to a gold - Oliv gold - and I do prefer the sound, and the feel under my fingers, maybe a little less like cheese wire?!
It will specify on the packet.
