and quite a lot from before that date - it's 70 years after the composer's death so if the composer wrote it as a young man in 1890, say, and then lived until 1950. that piece of music is still copyright protected.

I think the OP is asking for someone who bought it to scan theirs and send it by email - not where to buy their own.

Yes, I prhased that rather badly (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (I blame being tired!) - it's 70 years after all parties' deaths : so a lot of Gershwin is still in copyright, because Ira didn't pass away until a lot later than George...

That's as I took it too. Without getting too much onto my soapbox, that's an attitude I'm frankly fed up with. Some people don't seem to realise that composers and arrangers typically get only 10% of sheet music sales if they're lucky, we don't get rich on royalties but they do provide part of your income which allows you to continue writing new music for people to enjoy.

So if you like the music, buy a copy, it's not much money. Help to keep the industry alive. Don't help spread the practice of this immoral and illegal activity, else people will assume that it's socially acceptable.

If someone stole from you, you'd feel wronged so why do it to a composer? Composers and arrangers frequently write for no money at the time. They spend time writing music that they won't get paid for for years. Imagine working your 40 hour week now and you might only get paid for it in dribs and drabs over the next 20 or 30 years if you're lucky. Copying and distributing music illegally like this removes that 'pay day'.

Sorry about the rant, off my soapbox now. It's a subject very close to my heart.
